Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 28, 2026
Dashie ("we", "our", "the App") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our application.
Information We Collect
When you use Dashie, we access the following information from your Google account:
- Profile Information (
profile scope): Your full name, profile picture, and any other personal information you've made publicly available on your Google account. This is used for authentication and personalization within the dashboard.
- Email Address (
email scope): Your primary Google account email address for account identification and authentication.
- Google Calendar Data (Read) (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly scope): We access calendar events from any calendar you can access through your Google Calendar, including your personal calendar and shared calendars. This includes event details such as title, time, location, description, and attendees. We also can see the email addresses of contacts or groups you share calendars with (as part of event attendee information). This data is used solely to display your schedule on the family dashboard.
- Google Calendar Events (Write) (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events scope): We create, modify, and delete calendar events on your behalf, but only in response to actions you take in the Dashie app (for example, adding a chore due date to your calendar, or editing/deleting an event you've created from Dashie). This scope does not grant access to calendar settings, ACLs, or calendar list management.
- Google Drive — App-Created Files Only (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope): We can read and write only files that Dashie itself creates or that you explicitly open with Dashie (for example, photos you upload to the "Dashie Photos" folder for display on the dashboard). This scope does not grant Dashie access to any other files in your Google Drive — we cannot see, list, or access pre-existing documents, photos, or other content in your Drive.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely for the following purposes:
- Display your calendar events within the Dashie dashboard interface.
- Authenticate your identity and maintain your user session.
- Store your dashboard preferences and settings (theme, widget configurations, etc.).
- We do NOT: Share, sell, or transfer your personal information or calendar data to any third parties.
- We do NOT: Use your data for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than providing dashboard functionality.
Data Storage and Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted between your device, our servers, and Google APIs uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Encryption at Rest: User settings and preferences stored in our database (Supabase) are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption.
- Access Tokens: Google OAuth access tokens are encrypted and stored securely. Tokens are never logged or exposed in application code.
- No Credential Storage: We do not store your Google account password. Authentication is handled entirely through Google's secure OAuth 2.0 protocol.
- Minimal Data Storage: Calendar events are accessed in real-time from Google APIs and are not permanently stored on our servers. Calendar data may be cached temporarily to improve performance.
- Secure Infrastructure: Our backend services run on Supabase (PostgreSQL) and Vercel, both SOC 2 Type II certified platforms with enterprise-grade security.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our services:
- Calendar Data: We do not permanently store your calendar events on our servers. Data is retrieved directly from Google Calendar API on-demand. Cached calendar data is automatically purged when no longer needed. Events you create or modify through Dashie are written directly to your Google Calendar — we do not retain a separate copy.
- Drive Files: Photos and other files uploaded through Dashie to the "Dashie Photos" folder are stored in your Google Drive, not on our servers. Dashie may temporarily cache thumbnails or metadata to improve dashboard performance, and these caches are purged when no longer needed.
- User Preferences: Dashboard settings (theme, widget configurations, family name, location) are stored indefinitely while your account is active.
- Authentication Tokens: OAuth refresh tokens are stored securely and retained until you revoke access or delete your account.
- Account Deletion: You may delete your account at any time through the Account settings in the app, or by emailing support@dashieapp.com. Upon deletion:
- All user settings and preferences are permanently deleted from our database immediately.
- All OAuth tokens are immediately revoked and deleted.
- Any cached calendar data is immediately purged.
- We retain no copy of your calendar events after account deletion.
- Revoking Access: You can revoke Dashie's access to your Google Calendar at any time through your Google Account Permissions page. Revoking access will prevent Dashie from accessing your calendar, but will not delete your Dashie settings. To delete all data, request account deletion.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Service Providers: We use trusted third-party infrastructure providers (Supabase for database, Vercel for hosting) to operate our service. These providers have access to encrypted data solely for infrastructure operations and are contractually obligated to protect your data.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
Dashie does not develop, train, or operate its own AI/ML models. We may, in the future, offer optional, user-initiated AI features (for example, summarizing a day's schedule or executing voice commands) powered by third-party AI providers, which may include Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, and Amazon Bedrock. The following commitments apply both today and to any future AI feature we add:
- No Training on Google User Data: We do not, and will not, use, retain, or transfer Google user data (including Google Calendar, Google Drive, profile, or email data) to develop, improve, or train generalized or non-personalized AI/ML models — whether our own or any third party's.
- Explicit User Action Required: No Google user data is sent to any AI provider unless the user explicitly invokes an AI feature. AI features are off by default and require affirmative user opt-in before any data leaves Dashie.
- Minimum Necessary Data: When an AI feature is invoked, only the minimum data required to fulfill the user's request is sent to the selected provider.
- Provider Data Policies: Where AI features are used, we rely on the enterprise/API tiers of each provider, whose terms contractually prohibit using customer-submitted data to train or improve their models (Google Gemini API, Anthropic Claude API, OpenAI API, and Amazon Bedrock).
- Transparency: Before any AI feature is enabled, the user is shown the provider being used and what data will be sent. The user may disable AI features at any time from Settings.
Limited Use Compliance
Dashie's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we do not use Google user data for serving advertisements, do not sell Google user data, do not allow humans to read Google user data except where the user explicitly requests support, where required for security purposes, or to comply with applicable law, and do not use or transfer Google user data to develop, improve, or train generalized or non-personalized AI/ML models.
Your Rights and Control
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can view and export your Dashie settings from the Settings menu within the app.
- Modification: You can update your settings, family information, and preferences at any time through the app.
- Revocation: You can revoke Dashie's access to your Google Calendar at any time through Google Account Permissions.
- Deletion: You can delete your account through the Account settings in the app, or by emailing support@dashieapp.com.
- Data Portability: You can request an export of your Dashie settings data by emailing support@dashieapp.com.
OAuth Scopes Requested
Dashie requests the following Google OAuth scopes. We only request access to data necessary for dashboard functionality:
profile — Basic profile information (name, profile picture)
email — Your email address for account identification
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly — Read access to your Google Calendar events
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events — Create, modify, and delete calendar events in response to your actions in Dashie. This is narrower than the full calendar scope and does not allow Dashie to manage your calendar list, sharing, or settings.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file — Read and write access only to files Dashie itself creates or files you explicitly open with Dashie (for example, photos uploaded to the "Dashie Photos" folder). Dashie cannot see or access any other files in your Google Drive.
When you add a secondary calendar account through Settings, Dashie requests only the calendar scopes (profile, email, calendar.readonly, calendar.events) for that account, and does not request Drive access.
Children's Privacy
Dashie is designed for families but is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@dashieapp.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Continued use of Dashie after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will notify users of material changes via email or in-app notification.
